I wil opine this...

The reasons end-to-end encryption is desired are manifold. But, 99% of end-users using e2e don't want the government to spy upon them... the other 1% are hiding illegal activities that would otherwise need a warrant (issued specifically, and directed at the offender).

The REAL problem is that it just won't work Constitutionally in the USA. That is because secrets CAN and DO harm others, physically, financially, and emotionally. This without regard to the end-user's intent.

In fact even logically, it doesn't work. One cannot have an open society, else the enemies can predict any defensive manuver. We cannot have a closed society either, else insurrection by illegal means cannot be thwarted. And further, a neutral society cannot be defined as a balance- each of the extremes are of independent immicible compositions. Allowing some of the people an openness, while others are closed is a form of class discrimination. Consider for a moment a convicted felon having no opportunity to use e2e encryption. Should such convicted felon be allowed e2e encryption upon serving sentance?
