Slacko 6.3.0 Mouse freeze in Dell Dimension E521

#1 Post by Computer semi-expert »

Hey all.

I have a Dell Dimension E521 (AMD Athlon 64 XP, 1 GB RAM, nVidia integrated graphics). Sometimes when I boot Puppy on it from CD (Slacko 6.3.0 [I know it's a development version but it's what I have]) the cursor will randomly freeze. As far as I know there is no pattern that the freezes follow and sometimes it never freezes at all. Unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in does no good.

If needed I can post more specs, try to replicate it, etc.

Try loading a completely different browser and totally avoid using the inbuilt one. See if that changes anything.

Is it a USB mouse?
If yes.
Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port?
Are you sure the mouse is not going bad?

Booting from a CD.
Is the CD drive clean inside?
Read lens clean?
CD disk clean?
Was Slacko burned to it at a low speed. 8 or less burn speed?

Final release version of Slacko is Slacko 6.3.2 for a reason.
Earlier 6 series versions had bugs.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)

Greengeek: this has nothing to do with the browser.

Bigpup: it is a USB mouse, perfectly fine, tried different ports with no success. CD and drive find, not sure what burn speed is.

I may try burning 6.3.2, but I rarely boot Slacko on this computer, so I might just live with it. I'll update this if I try 6.3.2.

Once the mouse freezes does anything else still work? Are you able to continue typing text and are you able to use keyboard shortcuts to switch between active windows?
