when I try to connect to GMail I get a message that the SSL certificate can't be verified because it can't get a "local issuer certificate."
here is the message:
The SSL certificate of imap.gmail.com cannot be verified by the following reason:
unable to get local issuer certificate
Server certificate:
Subject: /C=US/ST=California/L=Mountain View/O=Google Inc/CN=imap.gmail.com
Issuer: /C=ZA/ST=Western Cape/L=Cape Town/O=Thawte Consulting cc/OU=Certification Services Division/CN=Thawte Premium Server CA/emailAddress=premium-server@thawte.com
Do you accept this certificate?
Once I click on OK it goes ahead and connects. is there any way of avoiding this message?

A solution to the problem
since no one seemed able to reply, I looked further, and found this solution:

I haven't tried it yet --

I tried the solution in the link, it didn't quite work out but it sent me in the right path.
Since I managed to pull out a bit of hair in doing so, I figured I would try to help the next person.
