"The Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon was the big winner at the Olivier Awards 2015 with MasterCard, taking home a quartet of the coveted statuettes.
The very British musical, which follows the story of influential band The Kinks using their own music, collected both the MasterCard Best New
Musical Award and the Autograph Sound Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music, which went to singer/songwriter Ray Davies. "

Awesome. There's also a bit of Mickey Dolenz right before the end of the song.nubc wrote:TIME CAPSULE: Ravi Shankar at Monterey Pop (June 1967)

I've seen Ravi Shankar live in the 90s, it was wild, lots of hippies and Indian people dancing.

No, not at all Chris. Not that I've read the whole thread, but I can't say I've come across any "Wow, that's a cool tune" or "Where have they been all my life" type comments.. And of course, comments needn't be malicious..

Give us a hint what your musical preferences are, Semme.Semme wrote:Not that I've read the whole thread, but I can't say I've come across any "Wow, that's a cool tune" or "Where have they been all my life" type comments.

Seems the older I get. I am getting less and less mellow.

Sorry Nubc.. Sampling the last four pages or so, it appears the sweet sounds my ears have become accustomed to would *never* pan out for anyone involved in this thread. I know what the past sounds like and it doesn't mean I have to stay there. In fact, my tastes have evolved.. Thankfully, for the better. The women in my life absolutely *louve* my choice in music. Think this makes me a happy man? Sure. We're pleased to exist alongside such intimate and timely musical artists.

You never know... my fave musical artist list (which happens to be retardedly long) has a lot of variety in it, from John Denver, Peter Paul & Mary, and Joni Mitchell all the way through to Bon Jovi, AC/DC, and U2... and then halfway back again to Pat Benatar, Simple Minds, and Roxette.
I also have a bunch of songs I like that are atypical (or so I understand) of the artists' typical style, or for odd personal reasons -- for instance, the one Backstreet Boys (!) song I've ever heard that I could stand, Larger Than Life, seems to be pretty good music to power through stuff. Gets me moving. I also kind of identify with a little ditty by Genesis called Land of Confusion. (Watch the music video. It's great stuff, if a little dated. The puppets are, as I recall, from some period British TV show; honestly, I just think of them as caricatures and leave it at that.)
For some reason, even though I literally never play video or computer games any more, I like a lot of the music from them -- mostly the really old PC stuff that ran on DOS. Beep boop blop chirp whizz.
Here, have one that you've almost certainly never heard of. I like it because it's kinda cute -- the lyrics sound almost like it's all in the imagination of a little kid -- and because my head's in outer space a lot of the time (I'm a Star Trek nut, for one). For the record, I can find no trace of the band at all other than this song, so they must not've been much more than a flash in the pan.
The King of Outer Space, by The Bluetones.
