Fancontrol for thinkpad T61 ubuntu based puppies

#1 Post by Insomniacno1 »

Hi, thinkfan which is the only fancontrol program you can get from ubuntu repo's nowadays - is not working well in puppy, the setting stays on auto and that basically criples your fan.

I have tried this in Precise 5.7.1, LXpuptahr, Mate-tahr, greyhound, and others.

It does not work very well in ubuntu based non-puppy versions either.

There is another tool that I got working in Precise 5.7.1 - and in Xubuntu 14.04 LTS. But so far I still need it to work in Mate-tahr pup 6.0.2(updates to 6.0.5) and X-tahr pup 1b3.

The name of the tool is tpfand.

Problem is that I don't know how to compile and the times I have tried to make this work I always end up with one of the neded programs missing - like make, grep, sudo, lsmod, and so on.

What I'm asking for here is, if one of the guru's could take a look at the source code and compile it for me into a .pet I just can install without having dependencies error all over the place.

https://launchpad.net/~vl-sht/+archive/ ... /+packages

A newer version is here, but i have not tried it as it does not have any .deb files, you have to "make" the install - and that is exactly what I can't do:(

https://github.com/tpfanco/tpfanco-admin

I used the Precise version on Precise 5.7.1 and the Trusty on Xubuntu but only in Xubuntu can I get the tpfan-admin to work. In Precise 5.7.1 I just use my already made profile tpfand.conf to make it run as it should. But as I stated before, I can't get to run in other Puppies.

Can someone help me out and if it works then we can make it sticky - so the billion other thinkpad users can get it too:)

With kind regards

JBJ

PS. I'm on a ultra slow internet connection here in the Philippines, so big downloads is a nogo:(

Ok, maybe I did not give enough history - I have tried for months now to get the thinkwikki advices to work, and they do work somewhat - just not enough - I like my fan to run at 5000rpm most of the time - others want it quiet.

I have a Thinkpad T61 which has the nVidia videocard with the defective silicone layers from factory - therefore if I keep it cool all the time my computer will not die - Looong story and hundreds of pages on Lenovo forum.

Since thinkfan and fancontrol never go higher than 4500 - actually I have only seen 3933 rpm - I need something else - here tpfand comes in.

Its working in UPup Precise 5.7.1 and in Xubuntu, but so far I failed to get it working in Mate-tahr pup x-Tahr pup, Quirky, LXPuptahr, and some other ones. So I decided to stick with ubuntu based puppies and have been trying for months to get it to work, before asking for help here.

2 times a year I'm travelling between Denmark and the Philippines(where i am right now) and instead of bringing my laptop with me every time - I just have one laptop in each country, and run linux from USB stick.

The 2 laptops are identical so no problem there.

I got it working on Precise and xubuntu, but can't seem to get it working on the others as all the dependencies breaks the puppy somehow - did Barry do a better job on his version of puppy or is it a kernel problem - this I can't answer.

I just need someone to help me with making the .pet.

With kind regards

Drop me an email to remind me to check what I use on my T43P in Puppy.
I don't have it handy here and will look tomorrow - the email will go to that machine.

I just checked and I have IBM FAN CONTROL under Puppy 5.28 and 5.71

Fan runs at 4800 but doesn't seen to change.
I did have heat problems with this machine when I bought it - in fact that is the only reason I got it, But that turned out to be a combination of dust in the radiator but more the CPU load/speed settings - it was running at 100% whatever the load. Changed that in the BIOS power settings and it now behaves.

Hi again, Fan is now working in Debian Dog Jessie - which is Puppy like debian. Its not Puppy, and its a shame that its not possible to get this .pet made so we can get puppy fancontrol working, so I'm sticking to Debian dog Jessien for now until I figured out how to do this myself.
