ibiblio.org already had a collection of Linux distros at that time, and Puppy stood out as small and fast, and its author (Barry Kauler) was virtually conversing with the user in his web pages.
It's a surprise then to see Puppy's Rox in Pentium II machine perform like "Windows File Manager in steroids".
Puppy was also good with old monitors, unlike the mainstream Linux distros of the time that assumed 1024 x 768 resolution for display.
