Skype 8.34.0.78 in Slacko64 or ScPup64
Skype 8.34.0.78 in Slacko64 or ScPup64
I tried to install the newest version of Skype from the official .deb package many times in either Slacko64 6.9.9.9 and ScPup64 the past few months with no success. I also loaded libsecret and gtk+3-3.18.9, but every time Skype still don't work. What either software do I need to load before it will work?
It needs extra dependencies....
Here is my build recipe for latest version 8.40.76.32

Unfortunately, MyCrudSoft (who seem to be really 'getting into' Linux at present) appear to have decided systemd is the way to go. That's why you need all that 'elogind' crap...
And, TBH, there's loads of decent Skype alternatives around nowadays. Despite that, however, the world is still dominated with Windoze users who seem to think that Skype is the 'be-all' and the 'end-all', and is the only VOIP app most of 'em have ever used.
Which is why we Linux users are, unfortunately, still unnecessarily lumbered with the darn thing.....simply to be able to keep in touch with M$-using friends, family & colleagues..!!
(Just my two-penn'orth...)

My sister, a technophobes technophobe, is now teaching via skype -her students' parents choice- so I put a clothespin on my nose and loaded the SFS in the current LxPupSc64. Came right up and worked with the internal webcam and mic on one of the 2nd gen i5 based Fujitsu S761 laptops. Other than setting up the internal mic levels no tweaking at all required. Remains to be seen whether I'll use it over my ancient battered flip-phonepeebee wrote:I have uploaded the .sfs which runs in both LxPupSc64 and ScPup64....

Edit 06/20/2020: Also works surprisingly well on a core 2 duo based Fujitsu T5010 running again under the current LxPupSc64. The S761 microphones pick up an unacceptable amount of fan noise whereas those in the T5010 are quite clear. Nicer camera in that laptop also. I can use it for medical appointments so it will get used.
Thanks,

Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Marv, is the above-mentioned version still functioning OK? I'm only asking, because at the rate at which M$ keep churning out new versions, that particular release is now something like 23 or 24 versions behind....!!Marv wrote:My sister, a technophobes technophobe, is now teaching via skype -her students' parents choice- so I put a clothespin on my nose and loaded the SFS in the current LxPupSc64. Thanks,
Although I'm hanged if I can ever see where they've made the changes....
Mike.
Skype works in LXPUPSC4
I loaded up the Skype sfs in LXPUPSC4 (19.09) running on my laptop.
Tested fine with audio and video on both ends, without requiring any tweaking.
An excellent result. I have been wanting to get Skype to work on Puppy Linux for quite some time.
Thank you so much !
