Hi
Is there a lightweight alternative file manager to Rox-Filer please? I don't know how use it easily and I cannot even seem to master basic searches?
Also I cannot work out how to symlink things? (I usually use Linux Mint so this is a massive learning curve for me)
Is there an alternative file manager to Rox? (Solved)
Howdy Kyle!
With ROX it's good to have two directories open when shuffling files.
Symlinks are simply a matter of drag'n drop, "Link (relative)."
It gets easier...
Otherwise, most here will suggest Xfe or PCManFM. Not many references to Worker.
It's all about your habits and what feels comfortable.

Pfind is the program to use to search for stuff.
menu->Filesystem->Pfind
menu->Filesystem->Pfind
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Thanks for this, am installing now.
What I was thinking of was a simple search on a large music directory, finding songs named a certain way, right clicking them and all and playing through a media player. I seem to struggle with Rox-Filer even finding files to play back?
ETA - I have Caja working but I have to do a search under Findnrun to get to see it and run it - is there an easier way to use it? (Sorry for the questions!)
Kyle
Your installation should have placed these desktop files in /usr/share/applications where they'd then be made available by JWM.
Not the case? Perhaps because it's "Mate-centric?" Hmm...
Ah! In its "browser.desktop" file, maybe add, save, then restart X..

And the same for those remaing Caja files there.Name=Caja
TryExec=caja
Exec=caja --no-desktop --browser %U
Icon=system-file-manager
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=false
Type=Application

Added emelFM2, thank you.Semme wrote:Alternately you could drag the /usr/bin/caja binary to your desktop and start it from there.
In addition I would grab emelFM2 for a file manager as per the recommendation by ozsouth.
Will have another go at Caja now.
EDIT - That worked straight off, thank you so much!
