More stuff... Dropbear is a small ssh package; it can be built with ssh, sshd, scp, and key generator/convertor in one binary. Uses libtom* for crypto; sqlite and wpa_supplicant can also be configured to use libtom*. Toybox includes a dhcp client, dhcp server, syslogd/klogd, tftpd, and crond/crontab...

Re: Sticking keys

What I always do is pry up the key cap (from the top or bottom, not the side); it's usually lint or other debris I can remove with tweezers. Caution: YMMV. What is YMMV ? Your Mileage May Vary; in other words, it works for me but I can't say it would work for you (especially if your keyboard has di...

Nice work Ibidem - are you a gunsmith by trade, or was this a DIY home repair? DIY; due to the age of the gun, I couldn't find an ejector online, the gunsmith said they couldn't get one, and their estimate was $100+. I've done a very little bit of metalwork myself (as a hobby). So I took it apart, ...

Re: Sticking keys

I am having problems with my laptop keyboard. On some keys, I have to really pound on them. Would rubbing alcohol be safe to soak the keyboard in ? What I always do is pry up the key cap (from the top or bottom, not the side); it's usually lint or other debris I can remove with tweezers. Caution: Y...

Dear guys, I had some success recently getting void* work on 32 and 64-bit machines by changing that void to intptr_t. Anybody want to try that and report the results? With kind regards, vovchik void * should cast properly to any pointer type (technically function pointers have slightly different r...

A little repair job I finished today. At top left is a bolt/firing pin assembly; the piece just below it is a broken ejector. Lower right is part of the receiver for a 1957 Marlin 39A, including a new ejector I filed out from the handle of an old stainless table knife (3-4 hours to complete, using a...

I presume from the title that the computer in question was a Thinkpad Edge E130? If so, it probably has one of two wireless adapters: "Thinkpad bgn wireless", which at that time meant a rebranded RTL8192SE (requires kernel 3.x), or Intel wireless. Type "lspci -nnk |grep -A 2 -i net&qu...

Of course; amd64 can run in real mode, protected mode, or long mode. Only in long mode (64-bit OS) are there problems.

x86 has several modes: real mode (16-bit), 16-bit protected mode (from the 286), 32-bit protected mode (386 and later), 32-bit "flat" real mode aka unreal mode (not intended but a hack some DOS programmers made that somehow allows running real mode stuff after setting up 32-bit registers),...

If it works... I presume that's something you did? What sort of motherboard/screen/... did you use? (Was it the guts of a used laptop?) No, no. Spent a few years barely on the grid. When we were building a new house, we lived in a trailer on the property. For a while, that meant plugging it into a generator once a week; the stove and fridge were propane. Other than the trailer, we've pretty much always used wood heat. Splitting firewood is ...

XMMS is nice, but its support for modern audio formats is quite limited. I've started working on "ff123", a FFmpeg-based (lol, this doesn't make any sense) tiny audio player which we can use as fallback when mpg123/mpg321 , ogg123/ogg122 and wavplay are not enough (e.g for FLAC). I know t...

Recharging laptop batteries

WARNING: The method I'm describing here won't work with some cell phones; some phones will not recharge if they run down this much. I've got a netbook with an originally meager 3-cell battery; being about 5 years old, it's gotten feebler with age. So, I checked what percent of the original capacity ...
