CompuPic problem solved
="Chevello" -- I'm on a mission to figure out why it doesn't work. Well ?..... Anyway ... it works now [Goblinx 2.7, kernel 2.6.24]. It seems the problem is the directory tree. Make directory: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale change into that directory, then execute this command: ln -s /usr/shar...

Re: Compupic Image Viewer for Linux.
>>>>>"Has anyone been able to get Compupic Image Viewer for Linux to work" Funny you should mention it. A few days ago looked into my old Caldera 2.4 CD and there it was CompuPic. Thought I would give it a try. Eight years later still better than what Linux cadets could come up with, and l...

You people are really victims of public education. Everything you have is thanks to the so-called free enterprise. Without the US there would be no internet, no computer, no C-language, no Unix. Soviet Russia, red China could never have developed the internet, and would never have allowed it to deve...

please explain free memory disparity
When I run aterm -e top it tells me that 175068k memory used, 273456k free. At the same time system monitor says that only 56.5mb memory is used, the rest is free.
Why the difference ? Who should I believe ?

gcc
I put the sfs in many places -- no difference
Could you help with this predicament :
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
(after installing directory 'd' from SlackWare CD)

SnowDog Wouldn't that be just awful if Bill Gates had been more forward-thinking in 1997 than linux cadets in 2004. My story was I managed to install wind98 on Acer Aspire (talk about blistering speed: 5 minutes install time), but there is no video driver for it, so it only booted in 640x480 mode. I...

98 sata linux
Inquiring mind wants to know
Windows 98 came out in 1998. It recognizes and installs onto sata hard-drive. Linux flavours from 2002-03-04 do not. Why ? Or, what am I doing wrong ?

How to prevent the popup when turma shuts down?
Turma is good.
How could I get rid of that icehole confirmation pupup when I try to close the program ? (could we circumcize these guy with a rusty butcher knife?)
Is there a text search prog as good as Turma that was not written by fargen low-lifes ?

All right. That sounds convincing and reason enough. I am willing to copy stuff onto sda6 and format sda7. What should the format be ? ext2 or ext3 ? what difference would journaling make to me ? Regarding vga=1-6 Yes, it makes characters smaller (ugly as can be); but what I am looking for is the fr...

Unfortunately it is a bit more than that ALSA does not configure. It says there is no sound card Wired network does not configure. It says there is no module. It knows about my SiS900 Wireless config says my card works fine, even though there is no wireless card in this machine. So, something is cro...
