The horror of Windows 10...

#1 Post by bugman-2.0 »

A friend bought me a game on Steam, and it won't work with Linux. So, I got the idea to install Windows 10.

My God.

How do people deal with that? From the talking assistant to the Candy Crush Soda Saga to the dozen questions asking you "How may we sell your information today?"

I've never been happier to wipe my drive and see the Puppy desktop again.

What is the game?

Shenmue. I've never been able to get it working with an emulator and Wine either. Lobster (is he still here?) would have something to say about accepting the inevitable...

I remember forum member 'bugman', from way back. Just checked, bugman last posted in 2012, and 'bugman-2.0' appeared on the forum in 2012.

So, you must be the same person! I guess that you had a login problem with the old username?

Anyway, welcome back.

Here is some info from WineHQ.org
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=37103
This person says he got it working in Wine.
Look at test results for info on what was done.

If this is a Windows PC game.
What version of Windows, Wine is emulating, can have a big affect on how a game plays.
You can change this in Wine config.

I look to see what version of Windows the game was designed to run in.
Set Wine to emulate that version of Windows when running that game.
Makes a big difference how the game runs.

Thanks, Barry!

Yeah, memory issues, passwords, something like that...

Anyway, still using the Pup as my only OS (apart from failed experiments) after all these years. Thank you again and again and again...

It's a what-do-you-call-those-things game... The devices you hook to your TV, not a computer. Like X-Box and so on. That's why the Steam version was sort of exciting.

I'm going to die without insulin. I'm not going to die without this game. Windows 10? 50-50 odds. :D

even as an EX-MVP, I refuse to use or even touch WIndows TEN.
XP and SEVEN will have to see me out. And I hope Puppy is still around in seven years time when Win 7 ceases to be updated.

Oh, it isn't just the reporting; that is easier to prevent than using those methods.
I don't use my computer as a media centre, so the whole concept around which ten is built is pointless to me and most of the companies I support, who run businesses not playgrounds.

Hey Chris, glad to see you well. I should really come by more often, but Puppy is so trouble-free...

Thanks for the warnings. Three are a lot of those Dells on eBay, and they're pretty cheap. But...
