Qnext for linux - P2P filesharing

#1 Post by krumpli »

Just in case anyone in interested,I have downloaded the above program. After clicking on the .bz file in my download area, it opened a window where I could select all the files and have them extracted to a directory of my choice. I have a few extra hardrives installed on my desktop pc. So I selected/created a directory for the program.

The program installed itself with no problems. I found the executable and left clicked once and the program launched. I will add that I am using a p4 2 ghz computer and did notice a definite lag on launch in part because of the java (it is all self contained) and in part because the initial process reviews your internet connections and account status.

After initialization, the program gave a screen to create an account which I was able to do without any difficulty. Then the program indicated that updates were available. I allowed the updates to be installed.

Afterwards I had an on-screen window that was functional.

Qnext is CLOSED source so some may be upset about this posting. BUT what was important to me was that the install was do able by any near novice.
Here is the article that prompted my trying the software:

I am using Puppy vs 2.16 live cd with a pupsave file on my hard drive. Hardware is as stated above P4 2. ghz with 1 gig of memory and 210 gigs of hard drive storage. I have been using Puppy since version 1.07. Thanks to Barry and all you people on the forum for the fine product, help and additional software.

A special thanks to mu as I have installed his 3DCC driver dotpup (for puppy vs 2.13 and it works fine on vs 2.16) and it really has improved my overall enjoyment of Puppy and allowed me to enjoy Google Earth which installed similarly.

Another special thanks to flash for his suggestion on downloading skype_staticQT as I have a working Skype since version 2.13 Puppy. This also installed similarly.

So more and more additional software is very easily installed into the Puppy system (if you have storage space and resources to spare). Albeit not all is open source. I will in the near future try the new openWengo softphone version just released for Linux. Hoping that it is all self-contained as the three above programs were.

This will not run on older PCs, needs about a 1gb processor and 256mb of ram at least.
