Just a Web Browser

#1 Post by jcrafty3 »

I've made a digital picture frame from a REALLY old laptop. I'm already using puppy linux on a cd (no hard drive) but it still takes forever to set it up to run a slideshow. Everytime I start it, I have to go back and change all the settings. I can't boot off of a usb and would prefer to run off a floppy but a cd is fine. I've just made a home server on an old computer so now i'm wanting to run Tonido ( a web based cloud computing thing), so everything is run off of the server instead. This way I can just keep all my pictures on it instead.
So here's my question. Is there a distro that when I press power all it does is start up and open up a browser. That's all I need it for. I've been looking everywhere but can't seem to find anything. I've seen things that are close but are over my head. I've liked how easy puupy linux has been and commend and thank all you guys for your hard work. Any sugguestions?

Muppy-Embryo

At startup, it offers to run Opera in Kiosk mode.
It is just 43 MB.

Thanks MU. That's sounds like exactly what I need. I'm at work so I'll try it when I get home. I'm up for more suggestions so feel free.

I just see, that Opera is in "server" only, not in Embryo. We had removed it to keep Embryo as a micro system, to add programs on your own.

I think, with this pet it should work in Embryo.
Let me know, if not.
To install it, double click it in XFileExplorer, or right-click - open with - "petget".

To download it from within embryo, type:
cd /root
wget -c http://dotpups.de/files/opera-for-embryo.pet

http://dotpups.de/files/opera-for-embryo.pet (9 MB, 15 extracted)
Includes Opera and libQT 3.3.8.

Please let me know, if something misses.

SafePup

SafePup is based on Puppy 2.13 and includes the FireFox browser version 1.5.0.12. The browser opens when the program starts. I have used this Puppy for sometime and I can recommend it.

A complete description and download is available here:

Try browserpuppy (65Mb)

Browserpuppy is based on Puppy Linux (Barebone 4.1.2) for surfing the web.

No Office, no FTP, no printing, just browsing the web with:
- SeaMonkey
- Flash 10 (Fullscreen Youtube)
- PDF-reader
- Music-player (Alsaplayer)
- JWM rounded corners

Download at http://www.browserpuppy.com

Why? If you create a new user and limit all priveledges to just the browser and running extensions, and have that user the default login. Then symlink the browser into the startup. then you could always get back to using periferials and an interface.
