Xrefresh is part of x11-xserver-utils. You can try this build from Trusty 14.04.
Stick it in /usr/bin or ~/my-applications/bin and run it >> xrefresh -none
You could just as well create a simple script and drag it to your desktop.

xref64.pet
xref.pet
32 bit package was made from Semme's .gz and suggestion. 64 bit package is the same run code but uses the binary from the archlinux package found at https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr ... -xrefresh/.
___
tested the 64 bit in tahr64--appears to work (screen flicked really quickly; no longer a need to dread hanging (mostly gxmenu) windows?).
xref in a terminal, click the script (icon for it in usr/share/applications can be dragged to the desktop), or activate it from the jwm desktop menu.
cool new feature/old thread bump.

just checked the 32 bit version in xenial704--seems to have refreshed the screen (in the blink of an eye).big_bass wrote:refresh your X11 instead of restarting it

check to see if there's a green xrefresh cog and xref script in /my-applications/bin--desktop entry and icon call the script that relies on that cog (same if you stuck the thing on a taskbar, which is what i think i see in your pic). enter the command (xrefresh -none) in a terminal to see if there are error messages. archlinux link i posted has two deps listed--maybe your pup needs one or both.

i think the code defaults to the -none. xref calls xrefresh and asks it to do "-none," which is default, so yes, xref is short for xrefresh, which is a shorter version of xrefresh -none (i believe--i haven't checked over the documentation lately).kiramm wrote:thank u verry for ansering my diletant questions

fine by me. how do you like it?i made a short cut but as u see on pic
is that ok?
(i'm not familiar with your windows manager (xfce?), but if that's how it assigns keycuts, what could be wrong with it?)
sorry i can't help you more, kiramm. one thing i can help with is the location of the files--/root/my-applications/bin is not the same place as /usr/bin (though that location would work and you could link or copy or move the file--the machine looks there first so it may even be a nanosecond or so quicker that way).seems not to be work for dead mouse

the mouse problem sounds like a driver issue--i had something similar that was related to monitor driver (disappearing cursor).
not sure how useful it is overall--it doesn't fully restart x, it merely refreshes it. fwiw, i got an error message when triggering an autosave. i used xref and it allowed the save to go through. haven't had the hanging gxmessage window i thought would be a good test of utility.

from https://linux.die.net/man/1/xrefresh:kiramm wrote:thank u very much for clear aswer
i just havent got clear for which problems or needs is this aplication
in case of freezing of pc ?or browser?
i had a process interfere with another process. using xrefresh seemed to have fixed it (something in Iron browser was preventing a save2flash command from getting through, and i guess a re-send or refresh was all it took to clear the path for it? (my familiarity with this program is comprised of a few minutes here and there over the past few days, and my experience with linux isn't much either: about four years or so of using puppy coming from windows)).xrefresh(1) - Linux man page
Name
xrefresh - refresh all or part of an X screen
Synopsis
xrefresh [-option ...]
Description
Xrefresh is a simple X program that causes all or part of your screen to be repainted. This is useful when system messages have messed up your screen. Xrefresh maps a window on top of the desired area of the screen and then immediately unmaps it, causing refresh events to be sent to all applications. By default, a window with no background is used, causing all applications to repaint ''smoothly.'' However, the various options can be used to indicate that a solid background (of any color) or the root window background should be used instead.
it's no sure fix for All That Would Cause You To Restart Your Computer (or X) by any means, but it may be worth a shot before you give up all hope on a session.
