Puplet that includes blender ?
Puplet that includes blender ?
Hi. I am new here but not new to Puppy. The version I am using right now is Tmxxine Prism 3.01 . What I want to know.... is there a more current and comparable puplet available ?
Grafpup seems to be down as well as Tmxxine Dark Force. I am trying to find a puplet with semi-current versions of Blender, Gimp, Inkscape, Python, and Scribus. I was going to create my own with Puppy Unleashed but that is out of date as well. Are there no graphic users in this community ?

Hello,
Im so sorry, the link was old...the latest is RC-2 at my link (now)...

Anyhow, let me know how it goes...

puppyluvr : after I did some testing I setup my connection (the broadcom was not a problem) . Murga was DOWN !
Blender performed very nicely . However . . . the screen resolution was off.
I went to change that to 1280x800 and I got the error message that "Your chip does not support that" . I started going through older versions of Puppy and I have no problem with screen resolution ( I tested up until TmxxinePrism 3.01 ).
Xara. I have not played with that in years so I tried it out. For some reason (would this have anything to do with my screen resolution ? ) the options for brushes did not show up in the scrolling menus when I was playing with the freehand tool . When I opened Gimp all of the panels were overlapped.
I am going to download your RC2 build and give it a try. I am hoping for better luck.

Don't poop it down... Pup it Up !
last i looked at blender I or it was unable to export to swf format so i lost interest. any updates in that field to report. at that time i saw some swf exports at the blender site but couldn't figure it myself and was unable to find the necessary instructions.
used to use this http://www.erain.com/ in my pre-linux past.

aarf : Swift is a great tool ! I remember using that one as well. However , blender will never BE Swift , but is an entirely different set of tools. A much more powerful set of tools , but it is still missing good swf export . Blender can export to FLV format (that lacks the vector quality I know).
It won't be very long . The coders at blender work very quickly ....recently introduced the ability to use svg files for textures ( a huge plus) gigantic steps in particles engine , and the internal renderer is better than ever.
I use a laptop primarily. Most of the projects that I work on use a very specific set of tools . Mainly Blender, Gimp, and Inkscape. I do not need bloat and love the speed of Puppy. It seems that I might have to spin my own distro and figure out how to get proper screen res here.

downloaded pupitup and am very impressed with the various additions. blender works better than expected in my small screen. will take a detailed look later.
also got Diabolo.iso after hours of slow downloading, havent tested it yet.
Blender installation in Puppy is very easy...
Have been using Blender Video Sequence Editor to produce HD photo-sound documentaries. Click here for some nice interactive Blender VSE tutorials:
http://indiworks.wordpress.com/tutorials/
PAW ran pretty well in my old laptop... which got stolen about three months ago. Built a new machine and Puppy Artist Workshop kernel-panicked everytime on boot. Tried Diabolo but had a terrible experience just switching the keyboard layout... Its a nice idea but still in progress... ended up installing Blender in 4.1.2 by following this sequence of .PETS:
First install Python :
http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/big_bass/python-2.5.2.pet
http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/big_bass/libdb-4.4.pet
http://www.puppylinux.ca/tpp/big_bass/T ... py-8.4.pet
Then the Blender dependencies:
http://s272568090.onlinehome.us/puppy/b ... 1-i686.pet
http://s272568090.onlinehome.us/puppy/b ... .6.372.pet
http://s272568090.onlinehome.us/puppy/b ... 3-i686.pet
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributio ... -7.3-1.pet
Then finally the actual Blender:

Blender Installation in Puppy is surprisingly easy and it hasnt crashed once in months of usage in Puppy Gallibox 4.1.2. Used it to produce these two photo-sound docs. Make sure you watch them in HD mode with sound turned up and full screen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg8Q6NTVVNw
Blender 2.49 is out now but as far as I know there isnt much of a difference in the Video Sequence Editor department (contrary to the huge VSE upgrade focus since version 2.46), the only blender function I use as I know zilch about animation...
I am now trying Lighthouse Puppy 4.4.2d as it includes SMP for multiple core usage... hoping it will make a big difference in Blender video encoding times.

Blender installation and Video Editing
After selecting the FORMAT tab in lower right corner box choose FFMPEG instead of JPG. Wtih double click on the ":" I change the framerate to "30". Double click on the ":" next to 1920 and type 1280. Double click once more on the ":" next to 1080 and type 720.
If your video has got audio now clic on the fourth tab, the one labeled AUDIO. Choose MP3 in the scroll down menus and click on MULTIPLEX to select it (making it darker). To upload to youtube in HD, now switch to the first tab named VIDEO and choose Xvid.
After giving it an output path, make sure the DO SEQUENCE button is darkened (activated) so it will export audio when clicking on the big ANIMATION button. I never click on the RENDER button as it looks for a 3D scene and crashes if there isn any. I am a photographer, for animations I am sure youll know how to use it.
Blender GUI and heavy shortcut orientation seem extremely unintuitive at first (especially if you have tried a traditional video editor), but its Video Sequence Editor is capable of high precision high speed editing if you give it a little quality time.

thanks jade14. had a quick look. but it seems the blender2.45 of pupitup needs to be upgraded to a later release before i can proceed. will take further comments to http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=37749 may try a virgin blender install on a puppy421 with all the recommended pets to proceed.
also, so youtube has an in house conversion from non-flash format to flashplyer.swf, do you or anyone know if that conversion capability is available as a stand alone program under linux?

Yes, save video as .png sequence, then use swftools http://www.swftools.org/download.html
They have png2swf, it allows you to convert your .png sequence into .swf file

if you have not already settled in to a different one then ok but is a good option.
Dev-Pup has Blender 2.48a -i386 but are you saying it has swftools http://www.swftools.org/download.html as well, or some other utility that does the swf output?
come to think of it, OpenOffice Impress presentation could do swf from a series of png/jpg as well. dont know how much messing about openoffice would need though. but last i checked te output from opeoffice needed to be clicked to change pages of swf
