Is there a post on 'How to make a Puppy derrivative' ?
If not can someone explain how it is done, just a rough guide to what is involved, so that I can begin to see how it is done. Is it simple or hard .... is it simply remastering the Puppy setup that you have on a PC or does it involve computer programming type work ?
Thanks.

Ther are several howtos, Barry even has his own on puppylinux.com - ... its on the wikis - just google some combo of , howto puplet remaster puppy linux
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.
pupremaster
See this howto for remastering: http://minipc.org/safepup/index.php?file=How%20to%20Build.htm
That will give you an idea (update the numbers to the latest version). You can use the remaster under Menu - Setup of the current Puppy Linux version.

So I would basically change my Puppy in whatever way I want in look and content and then Dougal remaster it as a live CD ?
Some simple questions :
Would this live CD allow other to frugal install it ? (Assuming the Puppy I remaster it from has a frugal install option still available)
How do you stop personal things like a wireless WPA password and any stored forms, files etc from getting onto the remaster ? Do I just delete the pup_save file and reboot before remastering it ?

It doesn't involve programming. It involves simple manipulations with files, the ability to locate bugs and the ability to fix them. Missing files, missing links ... all those tiny incompatibilities between stuff.
Rebuilding 4.3 is very easy ... it can be done using a tool called Woof. Woof can also build Puppy from other distros, but many things need to be fixed and tinkered manually ... that's hard.
I'm currently writing a Woof-HowTo ... I'm quite busy, so this is going to take a while to write it. It'll be ready within one week, unless I give up hope
It's very hard to simplify a complicated thing ...
Anyway, Barry is working on a GUI for Woof, so my guide will turn useless sooner or later.

personal info
It will be just as good as the original if you did not delete anything and added only new programs.setecio wrote:Would this live CD allow other to frugal install it ? (Assuming the Puppy I remaster it from has a frugal install option still available)

Settings are in /root, in hidden directories, and you will be asked to inspect /tmp/root at the latter part of the remaster. Delete hidden settings files (preceded by a dot) that you don't want to include.
In general, however, /tmp/root and /tmp/etc carry pristine files, ie, those existing files before you made the remaster, so it is more a problem of adding your new config files.
Lastly, before remastering, remember to clear your browser's private info. This way, even if you copy over your settings (example, .mozilla), no password would be carried over.
