CPU FREQUENCY SCALING 1.3-2 - Ondemand (dynamic) - GUI
I am back!
It turns out that I must have set up cpu frequency scaling with the nosmp option on. Now it shows 2 cores.
But it also shows "Clock source unstable" as shown
powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ processors (2 cpu cores) (version 2.20.00)
powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0x11 (2500 MHz), vid 0x9
powernow-k8: 1 : fid 0x10 (2400 MHz), vid 0xa
powernow-k8: 2 : fid 0xe (2200 MHz), vid 0xc
powernow-k8: 3 : fid 0xc (2000 MHz), vid 0xe
powernow-k8: 4 : fid 0xa (1800 MHz), vid 0x10
powernow-k8: 5 : fid 0x2 (1000 MHz), vid 0x12
Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -63601397 ns)
I do not know if that will affect anything or not.
Anyway, thank you for your time and giving me the idea to check my installation.

Hi there
Firstly thanks for the application, I had wanted to try to use this with a Pentium D 2.8hz cpu but have not had much success as it fails to recognse one of the cores.
I'm using a Pentium 4 profile ( can't remember which one ) and it appears to save the settings.
Some help/advice would be appreciated.
Regards

1. Try with boot parameter with "nosmp" and without
2. Always starts clean (there's a button to refresh modules and reboot)
trio,
I'm using the cpu tool in 431.
It only allows me to use "performance" as the scaling governor.
So I would like to disable it and go back to using the manual approach you linked to in your op:
How to keep your cpu cool and your fan quiet
Right now it is overriding the manual commands and will not let me change the settings.
Where are the configuration saved or how can I remove them?

cpu frequency scaling
just wanted to drop a line and say ,it's working on my cpmpaq presario 2.5gig rig . It runs nice and smooth in BigMike's Bruno pup , and i can see results by checking the hardinfo .
super nice stuff

Odd problem with this.
I'm running on an Acer Aspire One AOD-150 model with an Atom 270 processor. I was never able to get this program to work correctly on 4.3 and earlier puppies, the only setting that it would accept is generic, which didn't seem to affect the battery life at all.
On the newest Puppies, like 4.4 and Lucid, I can use the Pentium 4 setting and it does work and give me quite a bit better battery life. One odd problem, if the tool is set to generic, it then will not let me switch to the Pentium 4 setting short of deleting my save file and starting from scratch. Is there any way to turn it off?

Trio, I'm not sure you have been made aware, So I am just letting you know, Your wonderful little utility (btw, Thank You for this) is not working correctly with quirky 1.2rc.
I and a few other users are reporting that we can't get *any* module to activate when using it in quirky1.2.
Whereas we were having no problems in 4.31.
We've been hacking quirky by copying a known good start_cpu_freq from 4.31 over to quirky and then everything works fine. Any ideas?

did not find acpi-generic module or let me adjust to different speeds
on my Inspiron 700m.
I'm posting from Wary 020 now; where it works perfectly......and
solves the excessive temp. problem.
Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs
I have posted a fix for this problem here.OverDrive wrote:Trio, I'm not sure you have been made aware, So I am just letting you know, Your wonderful little utility (btw, Thank You for this) is not working correctly with quirky 1.2rc.
Hi trio,
Based on hints from rcrsn51 above, I've taken the liberty to fix up your code and bump the version to 1.3-3. The pet is attached here. It's only one line change in cpu_func file.
It will work whether or not modprobe.conf is moved to /etc/modprobe.d
cheers!

Questions:
1. Might this help with a chronic overheating problem in an Acer Aspire 5535 laptop?
2. Might this help with a chronic overheating problem in a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 laptop?
3. Can this be modified to auto-detect the CPU and suggest a best-setting?
The CF-29 uses an Intel Pentium M 1.3GHz CPU
The Acer Aspire 5535 uses an AMD Athlon x2 64 2.1GHz CPU.
The CF-28 uses a Mobile Intel Pentium III M 1.0 GHz CPU
