Puppy ARM?
This company has an ARM powered phone that goes inside a tablet that locks into a netbook
http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/home/index.htm
That makes sense to me
. . . Lucid 5.2 being Debian/Ubuntu based can be recompiled/repackaged out of ARM compiled packages. We just need enough Puppys with ARM devices
- not happened yet . . .
The situation is much as it was a year ago
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=50970
Kirk brilliantly created a 64 bit Puppy by compiling for 64 bit = Fatdog
and big bass has created a slackware Puppy independent of Woof that could also be transposed with ARM compiled Slackware files
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 586#432586
Puppy will continue to innovate because we have passionate developers
who care about Puppy.
ARM will come
. . . and other innovations . . .

I dont see it as innovation now. I see it as survival and staying relevant. There are many days now where i dont boot my puppy because my phone can do what i want. Others, new users, and even maybe me will do without a pc/notebook altogether.
If there was a known puppy phone i would switch to it asap.
Eg. This was posted by 3g connected phone when i have free Wifi available for my EeePc. It is a matter of ease and convenice at insignificant cost. And hey i am in the third world where puppies like Wary are aimed.

Here is a cheap ARM based Android Tablet computer as an example on how easy they are to buy but hard to implement Puppy Linux on it despite that android is already installed. .
A kind of Ebook?
Kendo seems to be a name used in Sweden? But the source is Yifang Ebook M7 and they have a spec info here
http://www.yifangdigital.com/product/m7.aspx
* M7 ·7-inch touch screen Android Mobile Internet Device;
* ·In mold-lamination processed and Chromed front casing;
* ·Wi-Fi (or 3G) connection to support web browser, instant messenger, e-mail, online music playback;
* ·With camera and G-sensor function;
* ·Multimedia center supports video/audio playing, photo viewing, clock, alarm,
calculator, and recording (third party software copyright licenses required if necessary);
* ·1 to 8GB built-in NAND flash and maximum 16GB microSD card supported .
Sadly it is an ARM again so still not Puppy for that one but Andriod works on it.
Puppy need to adopt Android in some way that does not get Google angry?
It cost a mere 1500SEK here so it is one of the cheaper Ebook.

If I'm right that works out about $210, or £135 - ouch!
I've just got hold of a Rockchip dualcore 800mhz one called iRobot, running Android v1.5 [which I hope to update to add a few things, like bluetooth, and nimbuzz for IM/Skype] for £75 including post
Only problem so far, is a Chinese only user manual
I've seen VIA VT8505 400mhz versions go for less than £50!
C'mon PuppyArm

Hi all.
Today I have been on the search for a small browser that
Well you may ask.. what has this to do with the price of sardines?
The developer of Surfer is actually developing a Smartphone OS. DeforaOS.
Looks like I need a cheapo Smartphone to check some of this out... goodbye trusty nokia 6110!
More info.. http://trac.hackable1.org/trac/wiki/DeforaOSSmartphone
Now, I wonder if this guy, Pierre Pronchery, would be interested in collaborating. He has (a non-funtional atm) i386 version of his operating system available for download. It's interesting stuff.
If Puppy is to go front leg (puppies don't have arms..) then we need to study what these guys are doing, I'm sure there are more like him
Cheers

b) downloads stuff from the net
c) is stable

Nice Find 01micko
So have you emailed Pierre for interest in collaboration?
Though I'm sure he'd sooner some of our devs collaborate with him/his project...
PuppyFrontLeg is an interesting thought
Browser possibles....?
Surf http://surf.suckless.org/
Uzbl http://www.uzbl.org/
Chromium/cups https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.or ... c64530ecb9
tricky to find light AND stable...

Edit: Maybe Arora? http://code.google.com/p/arora/

Is there some block to using operamini? Openmokko figures prominently in mickos link so is direct collaboration with openmokko also an option? Amigo hasnt shown any interest in posting his unfinished arm work online. Debian and ubuntu also have models to copy. Freerunner is mentioned as a platform although availability is an issue for me at least. If someone with knowledge could select a phone to target.
VIA VT8505 400mhz versions go for less than $99
Sylvania is offering Net-book in the U.S. for $99.00 at CVS pharmacy. Currently running CE-6 from MS.I've seen VIA VT8505 400mhz versions go for less than £50
PLEASE... someone start the project.... mine is a red brick as it sits now, 7" screen and small keyboard, three USB ports.... etc... Second version out in the last month or so.. same price... is tablet with Android. Both of course from China.
Have not read it lately, but month ago there is a long blog on Ubuntu with lots of folks playing.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... &t=1349626
BUT I would love PUPPY... Please...
on reflection i'd like to clarify. My full although limited by knowledge support will be behind ANY initiative that gets puppy on any phone. Count on me for testing and use on a daily basis. I see browser choice as just another user downloadable choice of app from the many available and so dont see browser as a limiting factor. If micko and Pierre can swing this using any combination of surfer, deforaOs and puppy the sooner the better in my book.aarf wrote:Is there some block to using operamini? I am not sure but here is one reason it is so difficult to get puppy on ARM or pads or smartphones with Android on them.
The software and hardware guys don't want us to.
http://www.gizmag.com/android-3-0-honey ... -os/17522/
These people are dependent on each other. No software sold then they can not pay the hardware guys. and vice versa.
So we need to get every potential puppy love to put in a fair amount of cash to preorder a version of an android phone with Puppy on it.
Then unless that firm get boycotted by Google then we get one.
Am I too pessimistic?

It's fair to speculate that in the coming years, Apple's locked-down iPad will continue to offer the best user experience - provided you're happy to work within the narrow confines that Apple allows, but Android will probably gain a larger market share by becoming available on a wider range of brands and devices.
It's also fair to speculate that Android tablets will likely suffer a lot of the same problems as Android phones: home screens filled with crappy undeletable apps added by hardware manufacturers or network service providers, Android Market apps that don't work or work poorly due to hardware fragmentation, and difficult operating system upgrade paths due to customized interfaces laid on by each manufacturer. These are unavoidable with an open system that runs on such an array of hardware.

As I tried to write on some other thread. Booting seems to get the Radio circuits on the Smartphones to boot up first so the boot sequences are highly specific for each phone and that way it is guared by the manyfactories?
But I know too little to say anything.
an old workmate managed to find a program on internet that allowed him to root a windows phone and to boot android on it.
So why not use same program to boot puppy on it? Just a naive thought but I trust that program is highly illegal to use so I did not dare to ask him for its name. But I saw how he started the smartphone and could chose to either start into windows on it from built in ROM or into Android from the SD card with that boot up program on it.
