Wot you been up to With Puppy2?
How do you Puppy2?
USB keyboard is not recognized in 200. I used a CD-RW which I normally do for a new version.
Also not recognized in 109CE, but I may have a bad burn. I used KIIIB for iso burn but cannot remember if it showed multisession(open).
108r1 was very good. It saw keyboard, mouse, and legacy SB AWE32 card--everything runs smoothly, except I had to put in the left-handed mouse fix.
I am very interested in version 200--WOW !!

gaming
Screenshot:
Of course I play in fullscreen-mode, I just run Quake2 in a window for the screenshot.
The background is available here:

I really like jwm meanwhile, and use it often in Puppy2 instead of Enlightenment from my Megapup.

Gorgeous pictures, Mark--just beautiful !!
BTW, I remember seeing your post about a Windows file manager by Christian Ghisler called TotalCommander.
Do you know if there is anything like it in Linux ? That is quite some package.
Sure would be nice in Puppy Linux--that might bring in a lot of converts.

Nice collection
Yes, Mu, you have a very nice collection of backgrounds/wallpapers there.
Here's a color and gray background with "Spot" in it. The original post is here.
This is certainly a Puppy original.
Note: If you are running less than 1024x768 screen, it's better to first resize the image to the actual size of your screen. This way, the edges are displayed smoothly.

Grafpup-2.0 (Dynamite), under heavy development. This is how I Puppy2.
Fluxbox-0.9.15 with transparency, custom theme, xdg menu, wmaker dockapps
Wallpaper by David May
Also showing Gsquash extension manager (Will debut in Grafpup-104beta, can load and unload squashfiles on the fly, from the gui. Fully functional in 1.x series, under development for 2.0), and also pictured Gimp-2.2.11.
Lots more to tell, but trying to keep a few secrets still.

Bring on the locusts ...
There are several 2-pane filemanagers for Puppy.
Small:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/File_Managers ... -0.1.5.pup
Somewhat similar, but written in Tcl/Tk (the smallest):
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/File_Managers ... -2.5.1.pup
I personally prefer XFileExplorer (additional tree-view):
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=1922
If you use KDE, you might try Krusader:
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=7223
In any case, install "the workhorse" Midnight-commander, that even works if you messed up X:

I don't have a screenshot yet of mine, but I do have reason. I loved puppy 109ce, it ran great on both of my computers (one fast, one less fast). Puppy 2 I installed on my less-fast computer to test it before I installed it to my mom's computer (the faster one). It doesn't boot into X right away, I have to type in xwin at the prompt and sometimes it hangs on that part. Once I got in I ran the HSF/HCF modem installer to install it. The script couldn't find my modem, but did right away for the previous versions of puppy I ran. I haven't really dug into this problem yet, but I'll get arounf to it soon. After a bit of playing around, I found that puppy decides to freeze up when I try to load some of the programs. I didn't really try too many (got tired of rebooting), but it froze when i tried to load Opera, Inkscape, and gxine. That was disappointing.
I then tried to boot into Windows to get on the net and stuff. Windows decided that since Puppy wasn't working, it should stop working too. Windows is liking to freeze right after it loads the background, so I'm stuck with the wallpaper and an hourglass that is completely immovable. Since I can't use my modem in BeOS either, I now have a temporarily worthless computer. I let a windows-hugger friend of mine borrow my 109 live-cd and haven't gotten it back yet (that doesn't mean anything, he probably just put it away in his desk and forgot about it). Crap.
Maybe this post doesn't fit in this thread, maybe it does. I don't really know, I'm kinda tired. But hey, that is how my Puppy2 experience has been going. Perhaps a suggestion on where I should relocate this rant, if anywhere?

I agree with Glenn Beck. Elmo is definately the antichrist.
Multithreading
I Puppy2 on P4 multithreading machines that can't load Puppy 1.xx
Hey, Chaz, this also means that I Puppy1 on machines made earlier than P4.

I like simple...... I also love TotalCMD which runs very well in wine and has the best functionality of any file manager I have seen whether in Linux or Wintel .. in fact on Windows I run it as my shell.
Anyway I hope no-one finds the desktop offensive its not meant to be

Pentium 4
raffy,
When you say multi-threading, are you referring to processors with hyperthreading built in?
If hyperthreading, do you know if Puppy is taking advantage of that facility?
When you tried running with 1.xx versions, was acpi switched on? The reason for asking is that I understand acpi is required for processors with hyperthreading. It might also be something to do with the 2.4 series kernel, I suppose.
Just interested, not planning to buy into hyperthreading or SMP any time soon.

Re: Pentium 4
I'm pretty sure the kernel with puppy and all apps are compiled for i486. This stuff works backwards, so i686 will run anything compiled for i486 and obviously i486 will run what is compiled for it. So "taking advantage of" is a no, but working under is another thing all together. I have a P4 3Ghz with Hyperthreading, it runs puppy 1.0.x fine.BlackAdder wrote:If hyperthreading, do you know if Puppy is taking advantage of that facility?
I found that it was there in 1.xx, it just seemed to work. I had to add modprobe calls myself in Puppy2. It mainly seems to help the fan know when to go and stop, otherwise it got too hot and shut off. Although 2 runs fine out of the box without the modprobe calls, just don't do anything processor intensive.BlackAdder wrote:When you tried running with 1.xx versions, was acpi switched on?
