This was on my mind for quite a while, but I dropped it because I don't have the hardware to test. It loves this latest Fatdog and so do I, however it still doesn't carry out modeswitching for my mobile internet dongle. Rats! that means I still can't have Fatdog as sole OS, I still need to use another Puppy or Windows (yuk!) to switch modes before rebooting into Fatdog.
Any plans to include this facility in the next release? My working life dictates that I am doomed to using a HSDPA USB modem for internet access most of the time.

You need fd64-devx_600.sfs . Required internet connection.
Recommended to build with new pupsave, 512MB or larger. I am not quite sure but If your RAM is less than 640MB, needs 500MB swap.

How to uninstall PET? The Un-Install button on the Fatdog Package Manager doesn't work...

Re: getnvidia-0.2-64
Thanks shinobar, I was going to ask for this but it doesn't seem to work. It appears the Nvidia package in your script is pointing to the wrong location. The modem appears to be downloading but after 10 minutes I killed the script.shinobar wrote:getnvidia-0.2-64.pet, NVIDIA driver installer/PET/SFS builder.

I then went to the Nvidia site and downloaded the source which took about 1 minute.

When I tried to compile the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-295.59.run package it displayed some ugly graphics during the build. Once installed it killed my video. I had to delete the savefile.
I don't like the way Fatdog doesn't give you a list of the drivers to select like other puppies when you select xorgwizard, in fact xorgwizard-old.
Looks like I'm going to be stuck with nouveau for a little bit longer.
Once I created a new savefile the above video worked properly with VLC embedded in Seamonkey.jamesbond wrote:Confirmed Mick's finding in seamonkey.01micko wrote:Working here in seamonkey and Ironsmokey01 wrote: James, here is a little video made with this command:

Maybe we need to load the sfs from the control panel and make a check on the 'permanent'.smokey01 wrote:I have also noticed loading the fd64-devx_600.sfs is not persistent.

I tried to get a Debian .deb going on FatDog.
Maybe it fail due to FD not into .deb files?
First I installed python 2.6 and then I downloaded this Debian .deb
from here http://www.makehuman.org/
Installing python seems to have worked well.
But installing the .deb seems to have failed.
Or I have no clue on how to get it going.
When I test it on other puppies then it says them lack python.
When I test it on FatDog then it it says that it has no such file makehuman.
But it does it is installed. If one go to /usr/bin there there is a makehuman there.
/usr/share/application also has a makehuman so something did get
installed.
How do I launch it? It does not have any entry at the Menu.
It says one should use terminal to launch it. Any suggestion?

Here is a neat little desktop recorder using ffmpeg.
It works much better with openbox than jwm.
Thanks to shinobar, micko and pemasu for their advice.

1. See this new thread regarding my new up-to-the-minute-low-cost=£245 PC
Some problems setting it up, but it IS much faster than my old 2003 PC.
2. Right now I'm working in Fatdog64-600b1...
I'd seen it in my travels...
Couldn't use it on the old PC, but this new PC is 64-bit, so...
It's a little different to the other Puppies I've used, so it will take some getting used to, but so far no great problems.
3. Downloaded Xfe [to the tmp folder]...
Says it's been successfully installed...
But no sign of it in "Menu->Filesystem"...
Ah...I see it in "System", but doesn't run when clicked on.
Running it in URXVT, it says libfox-1.6.so.0 is missing.
Should I install "fox-1.6.45-600.pet"?
Will try it and see.
Managed to download and install without supplying the root password.
Wouldn't know what to do anyway.
Xfe runs!

We may want to consider this for FATDOG600
There has been some findings in the community for those who go directly to the Internet via a USB modem (G3/G4/DSL/Cable) to the Internet or via an adapter.
IPV6 is the direction of the planet. Here is a Puppy thread where several members has made some good finding to assist the community.
FATDOG does have the base mechanism to do such, but, they have been helpful is extending the base to make it easy to understand and simple to implement.
For the upcoming FATDOG, we may want to PET this or provide a berth within.

He has done in the past as he recommended a modeswitch dotpet to me. Unfortunately it was 32 bit and didn't work in Fatdog. Looks like I'm going to have to do some more experimenting with the offerings on the draisberghof.de and sakis.3g websites. I'll do a frugal install of 600b and include the devx.sfs as I believe any compiling will have to be done in the Fatdog environment. (I'm still pretty clueless with the nuts & bolts of Linux so it will be a bit of a challenge - though I've heard it said that exercising the brain helps ward off senility!)jamesbond wrote:This was on my mind for quite a while, but I dropped it because I don't have the hardware to test. It needs library glew. There's a glew pet in the repo. Also make sure you download the 64bit makehuman deb package. But it does it is installed. If one go to /usr/bin there there is a makehuman there.

I've just tested it again twice with a frugal install, no savefile and it worked perfectly. I have only tested it on FD646b1 though.shinobar wrote:@smokey01

What did you try to install it on?
I think FD uses different compression to some of the other Puppies when building Pets.
1. Choose the package you want to uninstall (double-click or press Enter)shinobar wrote:How to uninstall PET? The Un-Install button on the Fatdog Package Manager doesn't work..
2. Click uninstall
If this doesn't work (I'm interested to know why it doesn't work), you can use the old and familiar Puppy Package Manager. Run it from terminal like this: /usr/local/petget/pkg_chooser.sh
If that still doesn't work, manually uninstall the package from terminal like this: silent_petget pkg-name-version.pet uninstall
Thank you Grant, excellent addition. Here is a neat little desktop recorder using ffmpeg.
While we're at this subject, I'd just like to clarify a few things:
- screencaster is optimised for making an extremely small output file.
By default it captures that 3 frames per second. You can adjust the frame rate at the "advanced" tab, but quality will suffer because the maximum bit rate is hardcoded to 128kbps.
Anyway, screencaster in beta1 has a bug which makes it unusable; this is fixed in the next release.
- shinobar's FFconvert 1.8 (or is it 1.3) will be in the next release (thanks shinobar)
- VLC can also capture screen - use "Media" - "Convert/Save" and then "Capture Device"
Thank you shinobar. I will package nvidia for the final release; however this script of yours hopefully will help those who need nvidia *now*. I'll probably use it too to make the official nvidia petshinobar wrote:The getnvidia avoids the dialog.
600 uses xz compression for the pet. If you need to convert it, extract it and re-pet again:smokey01 wrote:I think FD uses different compression to some of the other Puppies when building Pets.shinobar wrote:@smokey01 recorder-1.0.pet attached could not install nor extract.
Code: Select all
tar -xJvf some-fd600.pet
dir2pet some-fd600
If it works with 32-bit, give it a try with the 32-bit compatibility library loaded. It is located here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... g/sfs/600/ (similar paths in one of the mirrors - mirrors are listed in page 1 of this thread).kickstart wrote:He has done in the past as he recommended a modeswitch dotpet to me. The best way to do this is to to use the Package Manager; it is available in "Control Panel" - "System" - "Package Manager"Sylvander wrote:3. Downloaded Xfe [to the tmp folder]...
Well, you are already running as root, so it wouldn't ask for root password anymoreSylvander wrote:Managed to download and install without supplying the root password
Yes, Fatdog is ipv6 capable. Kernel module is available (modprobe ipv6); the userland tools are also ipv6 aware. If the ISP provides ipv6 - then Fatdog can happily access any ipv6 sites. Miredo/Teredo is needed for those who needs to access ipv6 sites but does not have ipv6-capable ISP. It works by acting as a proxy client on the computer, and send the traffic to a few public proxy server on the Internet (google: teredo public servers), which *receives all your miredo traffic* and translates them for ipv6 sites.gcmartin wrote:IPV6 is the direction of the planet.
