Inspirational technology

#1 Post by greengeek »

We are lucky to live in an age of fantastic technological developments. What sort of technologies keep you interested?

Anything to do with alternative energy sources and efficient use of energy grabs my attention.

Heres an example:

Flash provided this link on another thread : Zero electric bike

Love the concept. The youtube vid makes it seem like a well refined bike too. Not just a prototype.

roky, you're gonna be waiting for that bike a long long time... Kawasaki has no plans to build it for the commercial market...

roky, build your own: scroll down a bit

you can start with something more like the zero--batteries where the engine is, dual agnis (or whatever four year's progress from the last time i read up on this stuff recommends) where the tranny is.

roky, build your own:
While I do build stuff. Those curved sheet metal pieces are my other shop in progress.

I get sidetracked playing with what floats my boat.

Edit: personal photos only up for the weekend.

Trouble with that J concept bike is it looks un-natural to have the right arm higher up when going into a right hand bend as shown in this pic. Seems like there should be some kind of cantilever pivot or something to drop the right arm when in a right hand turn, and lift the left arm, just like you would on a normal bike.

I like to rescue proven technology that never got its day in the sun. Its like being a detective and the old master are wonderful when someone younger keeps the ideas afloat. Almost have all the mathematical rules for production of thin shell cement structures that had its hayday in the 1950s and rebirth in the late 1970s.
 Too bad some knowledge has died with its gurus..

Dismissing ideas simply because they are 'old' or from another era has to be the most foolish aspect or 'modern' life.
Same goes for people ;)

Speaking of which - what happened to the pics of the woodburners? They just disappeared off the thread. Woodburners are one of the few truly green fuel sources...
Energy efficiency,
Warmth,
Sensual radiance from the glowing embers,
Mmmm, bearskin rugs...

Some of the old technology is the best. Remember the valve radios? You could get a suntan from those!

exactly, I would not be surprised if my old Carver (US made) stereo amp will outperform almost anything newer

My MOSFETS on my semi home brew 300watt amp are apparently obsolete too... and they sound soooo sweet...
Obsolete power mosfets... now that was a bit of a culture shock.

The images...ah yes... we had to change domains cos of a spammer using our addresses... bleeding annoying....
Basically meant our ip/domain was getting blocked even though we were not the source of the spammage and out host was getting grumpy.

Hmm bicycles still to me seem to rate as a cool invention... how far back do they go.....

I miss the warm glow and deep bass of tube type radios found a old telefunken world stereo with a record player in the lid at a flea market in college. My dad was wise enough to do the same with a tube tester a decade eariler and was able to repair some minor mice damaged wires and test all the tubes. Hauled it with me from place to place and my moms father talked me out of it to get it refinished and use as prop at his flea market stall. Someone broke in and stole it.
