No sound on HP Laptop

#1 Post by Les Kerf »

I am helping a friend start using Puppy on his HP Pavilion g7-2023cl laptop. It is about one year old and has Win 7 on the hard drive.

AMD A6-4400M APU with Radeon HD graphics 2700 MHz (Dual core)
3 GB RAM

Using Live optical discs on all attempts.

Tried Fatdog, it booted fine, got online, plays video on a movie DVD but no audio. When the movie started playing, a popup box appeared, stating that the audio had failed. Tried to open alsamixer from the menu but it does not show all of the normal adjustments (I am modestly familiar, but not an expert). Tried accessing alsamixer from the console, same thing. Also tried you-tube; video but no audio.

Tried SuperLucid, similar results. Video plays but no sound. It doesn't even show the icon in the lower right side of the tray. Alsamixer accessed from the menu just shows an empty box, opening from the console says no such command.

Tried Slacko 5.7, it boots to a garbled screen.

Precise 5.7.1 also boots to a garbled screen.

So far my friend is not impressed. Any ideas how I can get some audio on this box?

Thanks for the help,
Les

You should edit the title of your post so that it says "Solved".
