Thank you (and L18L) very much for getting into and resolving this issue for good.

I work with consoles only occasionally, but I love that there is possibility of doing the most of work outside of X easily and OOTB: VLC (ncurses), screen, links, mc, an so on.
Very well chosen set of utilities was the very first thing that got me "glued" to FD, btw. :)

Thanks again &
Greetings!

Kernel headers

#124 Post by marmalade »

Running the module complier script for VirtualBox guest extensions, now stuck - where are the linux headers needed for compiling modules? A search using gslapt defaults shows no candidates that I can see.

Print Failure in Fatdog64-700Final

#125 Post by Yoliano »

Hi All,

I have been using fd64-631-Final since it’s release, as my daily workhorse, with much satisfaction. So first, many thanks to Kirk and Jamesbond and to all who contributed to it, for this fine O.S. I installed my new, Epson XP-211, Printer/Scanner, using the .pet drivers from: /fatdog/pets/contrib/600, and the Cups Wizard, version 1.5.3, with no problems. Printing and scanning are working well.

Meanwhile, I have been testing fd64-700b2 and now, since it’s release, fd64-700Final. I am very impressed with this ultimate version and want to upgrade to it. But to do so, I must have my Printer installed and functional, as I use it several times a day and cannot live without it! I have installed it effectively, using a USB cable and the same .pet drivers, with the right click procedure and Cups v.1.7.3, which instantly finds the Printer and presents the Driver at the top of a short list and permits installation. It ends up declaring: “Printer idle - waiting for jobs

Look at the Fatdog64 Seamonkey home page for instructions about using sfs files.

Yoliano,

There wasn't any changes to cups from b2 to final that I can think of. Kernel is different, which could affect usb, but I don't have a usb printer to test. Maybe someone with a usb printer could chime in. Might want to try again with another savefile or savefolder.

Something odd with wireless on my Atheros network card.
The net runs very slow, I did a speed test getting 3.5 down and 1.4 up.
I boot up another puppy and I am getting 10m down and 1.6 up.
It also doesn't automatically set up my network profile on reboot for some reason.

I found this a more useful page:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/web/
Anyway after installing the devx and the kernel-source sfs files I was able to get full screen display 1440x900 in VirtualBox.

Thanks!

Has anyone else noticed that the sound in Fatdog-700 is lower than the majority of other puppy distro's?

I mainly notice this in Psip but it seems consistent with most apps.

My capture, digital, PCM and Master are all maxed out.

Might this be a driver issue?

I solved the problem by converting the PET file to a TXZ files now located on my site.

hi jamesbond & kirk,

i'm trying to get chromebook touchpads working in tahrpup and have been told that they are working fine in fatdog. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers.

Also, where's fatdog 700s DOTconfig?

cheers

I have found a way to boost the sound a bit.
FD has alsa-equal installed which is an equalizer.

You do need to add the following lines to /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf

Code: Select all

pcm.!default {
  type hw
  card 0
}

ctl.!default {
  type hw
  card 0
}

ctl.equal {
  type equal;
}

pcm.plugequal {
  type equal;
  slave.pcm "plug:dmix";
}

pcm.!default {
  type plug;
  slave.pcm plugequal;
}
I just put them at the end of the file. It might cause problems with other audio apps like mhwaveedit.

More info: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=66804

As a nicer front end you might be able to use pEqualizer.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=81889

I just tried it in FD700 and it works fine without the additional lines in alsa.conf. Probably the safest option.

The best touch pad driver is here:

https://github.com/hugegreenbug/xf86-input-cmt

but it does have problems with the physical right click button. So if you use that one you'll want to have tap to click enabled and right click by tapping with two fingers. I also have a patch for the synaptics driver, but it's not as good as this one. I'm out of town at the moment, using the c720 to type this. For the fatdog64 packages look at page 3 of this thread. The kernel config is located at /proc/config.gz and also in the kernel source sfs.

Kirk,

Thank you for your instant reply. I have accomplished your suggestion: I started 700F without savefile, then made the minimal configuration of locale, time, keyboard and internet connection. Downloaded and installed .pet Drivers. Opened Cups and installed Printer/Scanner. Tested Scanner with Xsane - worked OK. Replugged USB cable to Printer. In Cups, clicked on “Print Test Page

@smokey01 - in fatdog control panel, there is this "fatdog-set-defaul-soundcard". That tool can also be used to turn on/turn off the equaliser.

@Yoliano: in terminal, do this: "file /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr/cups/lib/filter/epson-escpr-wrapper" and what's the output. If you see something like "32-bit" there, then do this:
a) load 32-bit compatiblity sfs
b) from terminal: "service cups stop", then followed by "start32 service cups start"
Try printing again.
