Hi Richard,

I think I am only going to be able to be of limited help here.
I would expect the Wary version to be perfectly OK in Lupu, but if you want to build a fresh one it is not too complicated. You do need FLTK version 1.3.3 if you want the "gleam" theme which adds texture to the buttons and fields making it look nicer and less flat. I recall that I moved all the config files from /etc to /root/.dillo and added the hummingbird icon which I think looks nicer than the one in Lupu or just the default X icon. Not sure if a tweak is needed for the icon in openbox though I must confess. I tend to set the paths up for JWM.

I did configure with --enable-ssl and it all seems to work with everything I have tried including the default duckduckgo/lite search engine and https downloads. There was another thread about this somewhere recently because Google stopped working in Dillo for a while (now fixed by Google we think) and I know that poster mikeb has another build in which he has done something else but to be honest I never fully understood what he had done. It may be that his method is better though so perhaps he will clarify for us.

Regarding both of your logs I'm afraid I am stumped. I don't know where the chown invalid option is coming from, I would be surprised if the package is causing that because it is all created by the conventional means. The second log doesn't mean anything to me either, sorry.

Bottom line is though that I think the Wary build would be fine and the certificates do prevent the user from having to keep clicking "Continue" to ignore the warnings. I find that they are needed by Qupzilla browser too by the way.

Just to clarify...I built it to run on 4.12 so should be fine on Lucid.
I also disable any ssl warnings since that is a work in progress so seemed little point in showing them and does not affect usage apart from preventing a pile of popups. Otherwise you make need a ssl certificate update.
Not sure if these changes would affect any site in partiticular compared to oscar's build...suck it and see perhaps is the best way.

There is probably a new release by the time we stop posting here :D

Hi Mike,
What I don't understand is, did you make some other modification (and if so what was it?) or are you saying that you just configured without the --enable-ssl switch? If that was the case then I would have expected https websites and downloads not to work (as is the case with the version included in Lucid).

ssl is enabled...the warnings are not. that's about it really.

What sometimes confuses the picture is cookies are not enabled by default.

Slacko Puppy 5.7.0 is based on Slackware 14.0 so use:-
dillo-3.0.4.1-slacko14.0.pet
http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks/dillo-3. ... ko14.0.pet

Update on adding this Dillo to Lucid Pup

#28 Post by rerwin »

I completed creating a version of dillo 3.0.4.1 for inclusion in Lucid Pup 5.2.8.7 and want to follow up on my previous "distress" posting.

The main problem I described stem from the upgrade of petget with the "petget rewrite" package, which provided a surprise. I haven't seen the dpip "broken link" message but still see the "icon is too small or broken (size=0)" message and am clueless as to how to find the cause. So, I ignore it.

I started with the "wary5" pet package and added a pinstall.sh script that provides links for libssl files. It also removes the old directory of users' data -- apparently that got moved. Then I added a "fixmenus" to update the menu with the new icon and text.

I have placed the pet package in my MediaFire account here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/b8ona ... -lucid.pet

I modified slightly the search options to add google and remove the "dd". Here is the difference listing between the wary5 and lucid packages:

Code: Select all

# diff -r /tmp/dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-wary5 dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid
diff -r /tmp/dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-wary5/pet.specs dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid/pet.specs

< dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-wary5|dillo|3.0.4.1-i486-wary5||Internet|1668K||dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-wary5.pet||Ultra Light Web Browser|puppy|wary5||
---
> dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid|dillo|3.0.4.1-i486-lucid||Internet|1573K||dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid.pet||Ultra Light Web Browser|puppy|lucid||
Only in dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid: pinstall.sh
diff -r /tmp/dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-wary5/root/.dillo/dillorc dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid/root/.dillo/dillorc

> search_url="DuckDuckGo http://duckduckgo.com/lite/?kp=-1&q=%s"
> search_url="Google http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%s"
385a388
> show_msg=NO
Only in dillo-3.0.4.1-i486-lucid/usr/share/doc/dillo: Cookies.txt
#
And here is the pinstall script:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh

# Add library links possibly missing from lucid pup.
[ ! -e usr/lib/libssl.so.1.0.0 ] && ln -s ../../lib/libssl.so.1.0.0 usr/lib/libssl.so.1.0.0
[ ! -e usr/lib/libssl.so.0 ] && ln -s libssl.so.1.0.0 usr/lib/libssl.so.0

# Remove obsolete implementation of configuration files.
rm -fr etc/dillo

# Rebuild menu.
fixmenus
Thank you, OscarTalks, for providing this new-ish dillo for us. So far, I have one happy customer in my lupu world.

SSL/TLS settings?

#31 Post by ac2011 »

Thanks for the regular Dillo package updates, especially for Wary. I'm posting this from a 166MHz Pentium PC running Classic Pup 2.14X Top 9. Twenty years old and it works fine with Dillo 3.0.5.

Just wondering if you knew how to improve SSL support, or if it's even possible. I've installed the CA certificates and updated SSL on this machine. Now howsmyssl.com shows Dillo as 'Bad' but only for its use of TLS 1.0. In all other respects it's 'Good'.

I'm wondering if it's possible to disable TLS 1.0 and use a different protocol, or if that's the only one supported by this build of Dillo.

Not exactly a big deal, obviously, but I couldn't find anything helpful elsewhere online about this.

Thank you rewin,
I used your pet in Lucid and it disables the irritating warnings, though I still get "dd" as my default search, and I can't find it to disable in the .rc file.

As for certificate warnings, I am not seeing those. Try installing the ca-certificates package from Slackware
http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackware/ ... ck14.0.txz
and then run

Code: Select all

update-ca-certificates
in terminal and see if that cures it.
This link seems to be broken. I am running Dillo in Slacko 5.7 and keep getting the certificate errors. Is there any other source for this update?
Thanks,
Les

The link is probably dead because there are more recent versions of the ca-certificates package available now.

I have a .pet package in
http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks
As I write this the specific package is
http://smokey01.com/OscarTalks/ca-certi ... -11-30.pet
That might get updated as well at some point, haven't checked for anything more recent lately, that one should be OK though.

Latest Slackware 14.0 seems to be the same version in fact

Curious if dillo-305 will play youtube or allow a D/L.
I know netsurf w/o javaScript will not. Newer versions still need 'help'.

Dillo will not play youtube.
If you mean download with D/L: Dillo is quite nice to download, it uses wget.
Most surprisingly, I find, dillo is good to access gmail. Gmail still has a simple html version.

an update for dillo

#37 Post by foxpup »

I've compiled dillo in radky's Dpup Stretch 7.5 because this Puppy does not have dillo. It is 32bit of course.
I've used the source from the mercurial repo. It has the latest changes since the last change was in april and I grabbed it in may.
IIRC I had to replace the last commit (detection/support OpenSSL (https)) with a patch I found at fedora because the compilation still produced errors.
You can download it here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1D35G2 ... I0ifeGSLfS
EDIT:
URL has changed because I uploaded a new pet.
I removed a symlink I put in the pet that linked /root/.dillo to /mnt/home/.dillo
I make this link to share the profile for dillo over different installs. But not everybody does that.

Dillo needs fltk, so I also compiled fltk from source.
The pet includes 3 games (sudoku, checkers, blocks) that come as examples of what you can do with fltk.
In fact you only need the libs, if you want to keep it as small as possible.

Thank you kindly, your .pet seems to have cured the constant certificates error message. :-)

foxpup:

What I meant was "Can I download a Youtube video?" from the particular webpage. My FF27 can right-click any troublesome video and download. However, one must change the name to something.mp4

I don't think something like that works in dillo.

I find it strange it works just like that in FF. Is that without any extension?

I do use dillo sometimes to search youtube; it is very fast. Next I use the link location/url to download with youtube-dl.
I find this a good small size alternative to smtube/mplayer that is a big install.
( you can define the search engine of youtube in dillorc :

Code: Select all

search_url="yt https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%s"
)
