I would be satisfied already if it becomes a peaceful year!

So, a peaceful year to everyone who earns it.

Thank you J_D_, the same to you and all puppy linux friends...i hope 2019 will bring peace and contentment around the world, but i'm a realist - unfortunately, humans being what they are, that's an impossible dream...nevertheless, i wish everyone here all the best.

Cheers from south Oz,
russoodle :)

BTW, english not being my native, I wonder, is "pupster" male? In my native, dutch, words ending on 'ster' indicate female.

I would say 'pupster' is pretty much gender-free, like monster or dumpster.

I may be wrong...
Correct me if I am...

I am of the opinion that:
"Sister" is a shortened version of...
Si[te]-[A]ster = Site-Star.
i.e. The person who chooses/determines the [camp/abiding] site or seat.
The place to locate the house or home.

That "ster" is short for Aster or Star.
And a "Star" [still used today] is a "special"/great person who "shows the way"/guides/directs.
Inspiration or role-model.

Are females well known for this and generally accepted as such?
Think of your own mother.
Did she not guide you as she raised you?

Beautiful explanation!
I believe it, whether it is true or not. :)

In dutch there are a lot of words with -aar or -er or -eur, derived from a verb and indicating the 'doer'. Though this is male, it is in fact used mostly for both men and women.
But there is often also a female form. What this female form is, can be quite complicated: -ares or- -eres or -aarster or -ster or -rice ... .
Linguistics can derive from this how and when the words came into use in dutch.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Indeed, female forms can be, complicated.

Thanks to Flash and Sylvander for the language lessons.

It looks like 2019 is going to be a "learned" year!

To sum it up:
Happiness, Peace, Prosperity and a Ph.D. ;) to all of you pupsters,
monsters and dumpsters  in 2019 !

Re: Monsters...
Mono-Asters.
ie. Believers in the 1 star = mono-theists.
In the previously existing belief system it was self-evident that the heavens were populated with INNUMERABLE stars [gods].
So these mono-theists were literally MONSTERS.

Demons[trators]...
De-mono-aster-ators.
Those who opposed the "Monsters"?

Monsters and their "Demons".
