Conky/Pwidgets. Helpful or just Bling?

How do you guys use Conky?Pwidgets to improve your computer productivity/experience? I have mine set to alert me when there are new emails, and to show download speeds so I know if the internet is overloaded and to come back later. Also sometimes display CPU usage to see how intensive some programs are. What do you find most helpful?

If one has such a 22" screen, then part of the screen can be set aside to show conky etc... and still have a decent view area left.
Not for me with my 15" screen.

i don't use conky

if i want to see what my computer is doing i open a terminal

ya know, i used slackware the other ay, with kde

kde is real nice, and the apps are real nice

the whole thing reminded me of windows

if puppy ever becomes like that i will stop using it

Hello,
I use Conky a lot, albiet a severely altered one, and depend on it a lot to inform me of my CPU / RAM usage, and Pupsave size..
Pwidgets is basically just Conky with "Bling"...
My vote....HELPFUL BLING....

I'm spoiled now to the pretty clock,.....
other than that,...they're probably just Bling for me.

For anyone with a small screen resolution => bling. Even with a large monitor, I don't see why you'd need TWO clocks.

I thought Barry's old setup covered all the bases, was compact, and visible all the time. Only the xload graph was not really showing what you would expect. I don't know why we couldn't have just made that prettier.

Barry's Freemem applet reports Pup_save freespace even from a USB install. Never succeeded in getting conky to do that.

I would rather not have it default, but I'm not complaining. That's just my taste.

Widgets have been useful when a program is slow to start, but I can tell the computer is thinking.

Bling, Pretty nice bling. Great first impression. Great as a default desktop.

Why Bling to me?

When I'm in Puppy I am usually running applications, not just looking at the desktop.

When I'm using applications I tend to either
A) maximize it if I'm using only one application or
B) Tile them in the whole screen if I am using more than one.

In either case I use the whole desktop for application windows.

For information regarding system state I prefer tray applications.

Again. I really like the widgets to be there when I'm showing Puppy to someone else. And kudos to whoever got the great idea to touch up the background darkening the region for them. It looks really nice.
