You're a genius DaveS! Worked great! FF now appears in menu, and is also set as default. For anyone else who might need this pet and apply it, when I applied it I got 2 popups. One was the green shield with checkmark saying everything installed great and to click OK. The other popup was an error msg...

OK, this should do it. Install the .pet, run fixmenus in a terminal, then re-start JWM, menu>shutdown>restart jwm That should correct the default browser and give you a menu entry for Firefox. It will also install the correct icon. One small thing... I am running icewm... that won't make a diff, wi...

DaveS ??
OK, I will upload you a .pet. First, where is the executable you click on to load Firefox (the path). Usually /usr/lib/firefox. I have to set this in the .desktop file. I will also upload a defaultbrowser file so it re-sets it to Firefox. Would still like these if poissible. Midori still thinks it ...

Yeah, I have a few flash drives and do something similar. I back them up to my 1.5TB external drive (along with everything else). Have a dedicated stick for BIOS-flashing (an old one that's only 128MB so not good for much else but perfect for that), then a 4GB for general use (transferring files bet...

That was my concern. I was going to use the stick to try out other Puppy distros... like FatDog and maybe Lighthouse... BTW, I made this Puppy USB install using UNetbootin-Windows-490.exe.... i.e. did not require installing Puppy to CD first. Don't know if this makes a diff regarding Grub and if/whe...

USB Stick BU Process?
I have Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 in a frugal install on a 4GB USB stick. If I boot into Win7 and copy all of the files off the stick into a folder, then use the stick for something else, then copy all the files back to it, will Puppy still run? Or is there a backup/restore proggie for Puppy sticks?

My 2 cents
I first want to say that I am not a programmer but greatly admire those who are. I have used Windows for 22 years and have wanted to try Linux for the last several, but was waiting for it to become more automated. Every couple of years I would read up on Linux, and this time came across info on Luci...

The path you listed is correct. Something a little bizarre just happened. I downloaded GIMP from the Pet Pkg Offerings, and upon installing it opened a FF readme file! I hadn't clicked on anything... was just waiting for the program to install... So I read the file contents, then closed it, and bene...

Re: Firefox Installed But Won't Appear IN Menu
OK. This means that the .desktop file has been deleted. This SHOULD be located at /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop. This is the file that the menu entry is created from. Check to see if you have it. If not, post back and I will upload you a self installing .pet for it. There IS a file called...

Firefox Installed But Won't Appear IN Menu [SOVLED]
Jeeeeze... Had FF setup with my fave theme and a couple add-ons... starting to feel a little at home in Puppy 5.1.1..... went to Pakage Installer and uninstalled older FF, (cause two versions were present from an update I did, and am on a 4GB USB stick and didn't want both) but it UNinstalled both F...

PS (EDIT): After I did the fix, I was re-reading your post and wasn't even touching the computer, but the page started scrolling do...

How Can I Force Synaptics Driver to Load??
Am facing a deal breaker with puppy 5.1.1 in that I have an Acer 4530 laptop with Synaptics touchpad, but for some reason Puppy is not loading the synaptics driver, so I cannot use the scroll feature (right-edge vertical on touchpad). I found fixes for adding scrolling by editing a file, but that on...

xload overload made notebook fan freak?
Hello! :) Booted from LiveCD, Puppy 5.1.1 last night. Did not create a Save File. (Don't know what is relevant, so ...) Puppy was working great and I installed Firefox, Noia theme and NoScript... [because I was stupid and forgot none of this would be saved] :) I then updated SSL from 0.9 to 1.x, and...

LOL and thanks for the welcome. :) I am completely inept, having used Linux for all of a few hours. I have one more very stupid question that I spent at least 45 min Googling in vain... what does the square icon mean in the system tray, that is next to the clock display? It starts off gray and somet...
